This Contest Won’t be Over Chop-Chop.
A truly barbaric affair will be taking place at the K90 Centre’s fun day on September 2 – the Turn ‘n Tender Caveman Chop-eating contest!
Five volunteers from the audience will vie for the title of Boksburg K90 Biggest Chop against 10 Brotherhood Strongman members, as they tackle a 1kg rib-eye steak on the bone (the weight excludes the bone!).
The meat will be supplied by and grilled to perfection by the experts at Turn ‘n Tender, said Charlie Bentel, managing director of Bentel Property Consultants.
“The Brotherhood Strongman events have always been a massive drawcard at our birthday celebrations and this year we’re adding to the fun with this ‘neanderthal’ meat-eating contest.
“Contestants should be warned, this is a mean cut of meat and the audience should be warned, it’s going to get brutally messy!”
Owner of Turn ‘n Tender Anthoula Papageorgiou said they are very proud to be hosting the contest.
The Caveman Chop is also now a menu item, so those who do not get a chance to take part in the chop-eating contest at the fun day can pop into Turn ‘n Tender at their leisure to come face-to-face with this serious piece of protein!
“As part of the K90’s 20th birthday celebrations, we are turning back the clock to bring customers 1997 prices on a 200g steak – at only R40!” Anthoula added.
Nearly four decades along, this family restaurant boasts a string of prestigious awards, including Best Steak Restaurant (Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Awards) for the past four years.
The establishment also won the Diamond and Platinum Awards at the Diner’s Club Wine Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The Boksburg K90 Biggest Chop contest gets underway at the restaurant at around 11.30am.
The winner gets the title of Boksburg K90’s Biggest Chop and a R1 000 Meat World voucher.
See you there!
Brotherhood Strongman Back To Thrill.
It will again be a battle of the biceps at the K90 Centre’s 20th anniversary fun day on September 2 when the Brotherhood Strongman crew oil up to vie for the title of Boksburg’s strongest man.
Managed by Prime Spot Marketing, the brotherhood is made up of athletes from various sporting codes such as power lifting, body building and MMA cage fighting. This means the crowd can expect top-class entertainment and competition from the team at the fun day.
Peter McGonigle of Prime Spot Marketing, is the founder of the Strongman Brotherhood and said the brotherhood isn’t only about strength and muscle flexing.
“We’re passionate about people and empowering the community.
“Every month we host an event in a different community to give the athletes and the sport exposure, and we encourage the community to get involved.”
Brotherhood Strongman is also involved with various charities.
“We are very excited about being part of the K90 Centre’s fun day again, and look forward to making the charity shoe collection and all other aspects of the day, a huge success.
This is what you can expect from 10 of the brotherhood’s gladiators at the fun day:
Tyre flip (sounds easy but the tyres weigh 380kg)
Farmer’s walk (walking a distance with 160kg in each hand)
Car ‘deadlifts’ (that go up to 350kg)
Seated car pull
Members of the audience can test their own strength and put themselves in line to win fantastic prizes, so make sure you’re at the K90 on Saturday!
