Metro apparently ignores calls to repair water leak

An Atlasville resident, Barry Gouws's efforts to get the municipality to repair this leaking fire hydrant availed nothing.

An Atlasville resident claims he has, for months, been trying to get the municipality to repair a leaking fire hydrant outside his home, but to no avail.

Barry Gouws first reported the leak on July 5, but nothing happened. He once again lodged a complaint on August 7, but still, no one came out to fix the problem.

A third complaint was lodged on August 27, but the hydrant is still leaking and it seems as if no one cares about the wastage and the damages to the road and Gouws’ property.

“To keep water away from my precast wall, I have dug a small trench to force water to run down the road rather than damming up on the pavement,” said Gouws.

An Atlasville resident, Barry Gouws’s efforts to get the municipality to repair this leaking fire hydrant availed nothing.

Gouws poured out his disappointment with the Ekurhuleni metro’s water department for its failure to fix the water leak, despite his many complaints.

“Every time when I contacted the call centre, the agents told me according to the information on their system the problem had been resolved.

“This forced me to open new cases all the time.

“We as residents are time and again reminded to conserve water, yet lacklustre municipal officials have allowed clean water to flow out of this damaged fire hydrant for months now.”

The Advertiser has requested comment from the metro, but at the time of going to print no response has been received.
