Watch: Royal treatment for nurses at Sunward Park Hospital

Nurses at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day on May 11.

The reception area and corridors of Netcare Sunward Park Hospital on May 11 were abuzz with excitement from nurses who celebrated International Nurses Day.

Dressed proudly in their nurse’s uniform, they were treated on the day like kings and queens as they were pampered by the members from Word and Life Church in Boksburg.

They were also tested for high blood pressure, body fitness, diabetes and many others.

Other activities that intrigued the nurses were the photo booth and the word cross puzzle competition.

Lancet Laboratories, Angels Initiative, Novo Nordisk, Sunphysio, Breast Health Foundation and many more shared some useful information with the nurses.

Netcare Sunward Park Hospital manager Dr Annamarie Richter said: “The importance of nurse’s day is a time to show the nurses that we care and we appreciate their efforts.

“Nurses deal with stressful situations in our health care system and without nurses, the hospital can’t serve the people.

“Today we organised for them to be tested for blood pressure and diabetes so that for once they can focus on their own health.”

Mary Mthembu, who has been a nurse for the past 35 years said she loves being nurse and that is why she hasn’t retired.

Student nurse, Caryn Easthorpe, said: “It’s great that the hospital organised these treats for us. Days like these are important to raise awareness that nurses are important as they save lives.”
