Metro not forthcoming about why Boksburg’s streetlights need to be on all day

The issue has persisted for a long time and in a bid to get to the bottom of why the metro is allowing this blatant waste of electricity, the Advertiser has approached the metro for answers on more than one occasion but no response has been forthcoming.

Another issue which surfaced on our Facebook page is that many residents have reported out-of-order streetlights but despite them reporting this to the metro, repairs are not carried out. Some readers noted this is a security risk at night.

Here are comments from some concerned Facebook followers, after we asked whether they have noticed the streetlights on during the day:

Juanri van der Walt: “Streetlights are always on in Pretoria Street, Witfield.”

Denise Oosthuizen Wilshire: “In Parkrand, streetlights have been on for months – reported but ignored.”

Ronel Koen: “Streetlights are always on, every day, in Atlas Road, Farrarmere and Impala Park.”

John Albertus: “Streetlights are always on down Rondebult towards Dawn Park.”

Madeline Feuth: “Graaff Avenue in Comet has been dark for weeks – phoned and got reference numbers but still no fix. It’s dangerous for us at night without light. Harding Street and Pearce Avenue without electricity at night.”

Anne Marilyn Booyse: “Lights are on during the day at Mazda Road, Dawn Park.”

Wally Hawkins: “Lights are on during the day in Pretoria Road near old ERPM houses and at the bridge as well.”

Madelein du Toit: “Streetlights off in Third Street Boksburg North/Rietfontein Road side since May 2017. Have been logging calls on daily basis but to no avail. We have had people robbed and assaulted due to these streetlights not working.”

Morna Barnard NeeDowney: “Van Wyk Louw Drive, Parkrand.”

Kerryn Arteiro: “Streetlights on all day by Atlasville Fruit and Veg – what a waste.”

John William Britz: “Happens quite often in Paul Smit Street.”

Sandra Janse van Vuuren: “Wiele Wale Street, Atlasville, and Brentwood Park Road streetlights are left on the whole day.”
