The William Webb Ellis Trophy.

Following a controversial 2011 campaign, where they were knocked out by Australia in the quarter-final stage, the Springboks have included new faces in their squad, including exciting backline players to boost their quest to claim an unprecedented third William Webb Ellis Trophy.

Host nation England, boosted by home turf advantage, will be vying for their second triumph – and, should they prevail, they’ll join Southern Hemisphere superpowers the Boks, New Zealand and Australia in the two-times winners’ category.

The All Blacks, who are defending champions, will be looking to do what no other team has done before – claim back-to-back titles.

Only four nations have won the biggest prize in world rugby since the tournament’s inception in 1987, when it was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The Boks, All Blacks and Wallabies have each lifted the trophy twice, with England breaking Southern Hemisphere dominance with their triumph in Australia in 2003.

Should either of the three southern giants win the trophy, they’ll step into somewhere no other nation has been.
