The late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates rising star, Senzo Meyiwa, shot dead in Vosloorus on October 26, was among 20 names nominated for African Player of the Year for those who play in Africa.

The 27-year-old made an incredible 51 out of a possible 53 appearances for Pirates during the 2013/14 season.

According to The Citizen, “Also nominated for the award are Kaizer Chiefs player Bernard Parker and AmaZulu’s Bongani Ndulula.”

Bafana player Thulani Serero, who plies his trade for club side Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands, was one of 25 players nominated for the overall African Player of the Year award.

The awards will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 8.
